Burlington | Lowell Transfer Station

Closed on Memorial Day, July 4th & Christmas
While using the transfer station facilities please follow Maine CDC Covid-19 best practices in maintaining social distance between other users and the attendant. It is best to limit the use of the facilities disposal areas to one party at a time. Please leave the transfer station when you are done to allow access for other people. Thank you for being considerate, patient and understanding.

Summer Hours:

From May 24th, thru August 30th

Wednesday: 12pm - 4pm
Saturday: 8am - 4pm
Sunday: 2pm - 6pm

Winter Hours:

From the first Sunday in September thru the last Sunday in May

Wednesday: 12pm - 4pm
Saturday 8am - 4pm
Sunday: 12pm - 4pm


Schedule subject to change due to holidays or inclement weather

General Rules:


1. Transfer station stickers are required for use if the facility, and displayed on the vehicle

2. Stickers are available from the Lowell Town Office

3. No salvaging of any transfer site material is permitted, except that in the designated second hand Goodwill area

4. Trash MUST be generated in Lowell or Burlington, with exception of specific contracted land owners from Penobscot and Hancock counties unorganized territories
ACCEPTED DISPOSAL MATERIAL

  1. Dumpsters; For household trash and recyclables. Carpet needs to be cut to 4 ft lengths.
  2. Goodwill area; Used items in good condition.
  3. Furniture; Couches, stuffed chairs and mattresses.
  4. Appliances; Remove door from freezers or refrigerators.
  5. Electronics Trailer; TV's, computers, monitors, fluorescent light bulbs. See attendant for drop off.
  6. Scrap Metal; Please remove any wood, rubber, or plastics.
  7. Waste Oil; See attendant for access.
  8. Tires without rims. No heavy equipment or truck tires.
THE FOLLOWING ARE ITEMS NOT ACCEPTED

  1. Heavy truck/equipment tires, or any tires on rims
  2. Paint, unused paint can be taken for disposal at those participating drop off sites with PaintCare,org
  3. Concrete
  4. Sheet rock/drywall
  5. Asphalt shingles
  6. Dead animals
  7. Medical or human waste
DEMOLITION DEBRIS, LUMBER AND BRUSH DISPOSAL

Fee specific permits are required to dispose of this material. These are available at the Lowell and Burlington Town Offices as well as from the site attendant. The permit needs to be given to the attendant before unloading.
